Futureproof Outboards for MCA 'Sea Rover' Workboat

A new Sea Rover workboat powered by twin Suzuki 50hp EFI 4-stroke outboards has entered service with the Counter Pollution Branch of the UK's Maritime & Coastguard Agency. The RIB has been fully tested and fitted out to MCA approval standards.

Propulsion Research Rolls Into Gothenburg

Rolls Royce plc has opened its first University Technology Centre (UTC) outside the UK at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. Scandinavia is the headquarters of the Commercial Marine division of Rolls Royce and the new facility will be devoted to research into hydrodynamics.

New Tug and Workboat Range from MAN B&W

MAN B&W has followed up last year's introduction of the L21/31 series of genset engines with a new marine propulsion generation of the medium speed engines in power outputs ranging from 1,200 to 1,900kW. The propulsion engine is largely based on the same engine components but with a different power layout and a propulsion optimised front end and aft end design.

Two of type CZ150 are a repeat order of package deliveries to a satisfied customer in the Ukraine while the DPZ180 is a complete sand winning dredger for a customer in West Africa.

The UK's Maritime and Coastguard Agency has purchased a new skid-mounted Ingersoll-Rand 7/31 Platinum Series portable air compressor to power emergency response equipment used to clean up offshore oil and chemical spills and salvage work on ships in distress. Fitted with a spark arrestor and Chalwyn valve, the new IR compressor is part of the only UK Government owned fleet of cargo transfer and salvage equipment, stored, maintained and deployed by Milford Haven based DV Howells, a spill response, training and consultancy company contracted to the MCA.

New Voith Tractors for the French Navy

The first of two powerful Voith Schneider propelled tractor tugs is currently nearing completion for the French Navy at the Socarenam shipyard in Boulogne.
