NATO Chiefs in SAR Event at Russian Ministry of Defense
01 Aug 2002
In June, Transas demonstrated its latest developments in the field of Search and Rescue Operations to an international delegation of NATO chief officers during a seminar on navigation hydrological and hydro-meteorological equipment of search and rescue operations at sea.
The seminar was held in St Petersburg by the Main Navigation and Oceanography Administration of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and attracted leading experts from both NATO and the Russian Federation.
The visit of some 30 naval and air force reprsentatives from the USA, Norway, UK, Italy, Canada, Turkey, Poland and France to the Transas demonstration facilities in St Petersburg was included in the seminar programme following the special request of the NATO delegation. In the course of this visit, Transas presented its achievements in navigation and simulation technologies dedicated to search and rescue operations.
The Transas new generation electronic chart system, Navi-Sailor 3000, features enhanced SAR route planning capabilities that allow routes to be created in accordance with the schemes recommended by the international SAR Convention, including expanding square, parallel track/creeping line and sector search. Integration of tides and current information as well as weather forecast data in Navi-Sailor 3000 makes it possible to have the route plan corrected with the current/drift situation taken into account.
Individual and joint group training in SAR tasks is one of the advanced capabilities of the Transas ship handling simulator, Navi-Trainer Professional.
Transas simulators incorporate extensive libraries of realistic ship models, including fast craft and specialist rescue vessels as well as visual models of almost all major port areas worldwide. Advanced visual effects such as rain, snow and fog plus dynamically changing ilumination and weather conditions allow for ship handling and the interaction of several ships in the same exercise area within a single scenario.
Transas has also demonstrated the interaction of its ship handling and helicopter simulators within the same SAR exercise.
