Essential Awareness of Port and Shipping Security

Following the recent major Diplomatic Conference on Maritime Security, held at the IMO between 9-13 December, the development of the International Ship and Port Security Code (ISPSC) is likely to have considerable impact on shipping and port operations in coming years.

To determine the effect on ports, and to decide appropriate courses of action and policy, the International Harbour Masters' Association (IHMA) are staging a two-day seminar 'Port Maritime Security - an Essential Awareness Briefing' in London on 10-11 February 2003.

Already attracting delegates and speakers from throughout Europe and as far away as Australia, the IHMA event forms the first two days of Maritime Safety Week, the final two days being a shipping orientated security and safety event organised by Lloyds List Events.

The Port Maritime Security event will be complemented by authoritative briefings by representatives of the IMO, EU, ILO, World Customs Organisation and the UK's Coastguard. Case studies involving maritime security issues will be presented by harbour masters with breakout sessions offering round table discussions of practical solutions and proven operational practices.

The event also offers an associated exhibition and delegate entry is open to non-IHMA members.
