Oil Pollution 2002 Conference

The Oil Pollution 2002: Claims Handling and Clean-up Response Conference takes place at London's De Vere Cavendish St James Hotel on the 22 and 23 April.
The event, chaired by Rear Admiral Michael Stacey, Director of Oil Spill Response Ltd, will encompass four sessions dedicated to: Regulation and Liability, Developments in Europe, Oil Spill Response, and Special Problems.
Speakers include Captain John Garner, Head of Operations at the MCA, who will review national emergency response in the UK. Dr Timco van Brummelen, Head of the Operational Division at the Netherland's Rijkswaterstaat, will discuss contingency planning in his country. Archie Bishop, Legal Advisor to the ISU, will analyse the current status of responder immunity for salvors approaching casualties which could cause pollution.
Commander Kristy Plourde, Deputy Commander of the US Coast Guard's National Strike Force, will review developments in America in light of the OPA 90 legislation which followed the Exxon Valdez spill.
A one day workshop will follow the conference on 24 April.
'Oil Pollution and Pollution Incidents: Command and Control' will be conducted by Richard Tatner, Head of Operations at OSRL, and Toby Stone, Principal Counter Pollution and Salvage Officer for the MCA.
