Dredging Operations Underway at UK Port of Milford Haven
01 Jul 2002
A £600,000 dredging operation is underway at the UK port of Milford Haven to maintain the waterway and ensure that vessels can continue to have full access to its berths and jetties. The contract represents a major investment for Milford Haven Port Authority, which views the activity as a critical part of ensuring the economic viability of its operations.
Westminster Dredging is working at a variety of locations in the Haven through August, regaining the depth alongside the Petroplus and Texaco jetties, deepening the main channel and improving access to Pembroke Port.
Port harbourmaster Mark Andrews said the investment was part of the Port's ongoing commitment to developing its commercial operations while ensuring that environmental considerations were fully taken into account.
Significant additional sums had been invested in environmental impact studies to be certain that silt dredged in the port is deposited offshore in a location which will not impact upon the marine environment.
