  • Perkins Sabre Replace M90

    One of the most successful Perkins marine engines of all time has been replaced by two new models. The naturally aspirated Perkins Sabre M90/4.236 is superseded by the four cylinder 4.2 litre naturally aspirated 92hp M92 and the 4 litre turbocharged M115T which develops 115hp.

  • Primar Reorganises

    Primar, the official European electronic navigation chart co-ordinating centre in Stavanger, is to reorganise its activities with the establishment of two centres operated by the UK Hydrographic Office and the Norwegian Hydrographic Office.

    Applications are now sought by The Hydrographic Society for its 2002 Bursary Award Scheme from qualified students attending, or wishing to attend, a recognised course on hydrographic surveying anywhere in the world. 

  • New Software Maintains Hydrographic Source Data

    Canadian software specialist Caris has begun distribution of its new Hydrographic Production Database (HPD) with first users including Germany's Maritime & Hydrographic Agency, the Peruvian Department of Hydrography & Navigation, and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration in the US. 

  • New Multibeam Offshore Guidelines Published

    New guidelines for offshore use of multibeam echosounders have been published by the London-based International Marine Contractors Association. 

  • Russian Order for Atlas Systems

    Bremen-based Atlas Hydrographics has received an order from the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow for supply of deepsea multibeam and parametric echosounders together with associated software for installation aboard the multi-purpose research vessel, R/V Akademik Boris Petrov, operated by the Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry & Analytical Chemistry.

    Consulting engineers Delta Marine Consultants (DMC) in the Netherlands has revealed details of a contract it has won from the US Army Corps of Engineers on an extension to a lock complex in Ohio.

    Walcon Marine, the Fareham, UK-based specialist marina company, has been awarded a contract to supply the latest phase of berthing at Port Zelande, one of the largest marinas in Holland.

  • Interbeton Constructs Quay Wall in Port of Durban, SA

    Interbeton, part of the Hollandsche Beton Groep (HBG) based in the Netherlands, - has been awarded a contract for the construction of a quay wall in Durban, South Africa. 

  • New Chairman at BMAPA

    The British Marine Aggregate Producers Association (BMAPA), which represents eight companies involved in the extraction of sand and gravel from the sea-bed around the UK, has announced its new Chairman. 

  • Lydney Docks to be Refurbished

    The Environment Agency (EA) in the UK says it hopes to obtain Heritage Lottery funding to help with the refurbishment of the historic Lydney Docks and surrounding harbour on the Severn estuary in the UK. 

  • Maureen Platform Will be Re-used - as a Quayside

    An offshore platform in the North Sea that was recently decommissioned, refloated and removed by Aker Maritime on behalf of offshore operator Phillips Petroleum is to be re-used - as the basis of a new quay at Aker Stord's facility in Norway.

  • United Kingdom Government Announces Light Dues Cut

    The British Government's Department of Transport, Local Government and the Regions has announced that light dues paid by merchant ships and fishing vessels for aids to navigation will be reduced from 41 to 40 pence per net tonne in 2002/2003.

    First Watch is a new concept that enables marina berth holders to view their boats at the marina live on their home computer using a standard internet connection. Developed by UK company Sirrus, the system enables boat owners to check their vessel at any time of the day or night via the First Watch website using a secure password from anywhere in the world. 

  • Dredging Equipment Supply Companies Strengthened by Merger

    Dredging equipment supply sister companies VOSTA of Amsterdam and LMG of Lubeck in Germany have strengthened their existing co-operation by merging. VOSTA BV and the marine technology division of LMG combined last month under the new banner VOSTA LMGDredging Technology.
