Macduff Delivers 'Emma' for Fish Farm Duties in Scotland

The latest completion by Scotland's Macduff Shipyards Limited is a steel fish farm workboat for Aquascot Group Limited to deploy at their facility in Gigha. The Emma is a versatile design by Macduff with tank and deck stowage facilities and a bow ramp door.

Macduff Ship Design Limited produced the cutting information on computer to enable Macduff Profilers, a division of Macduff Shipyards Limited to process the steel in kit form for the Yard to assemble at their facilities in Macduff.

The vessel has a 14.95m loa, a beam of 5.6m and a tonnage of 20.39. Layout below deck from forward includes forepeak store, fish tank with fuel tanks and ballast tanks outboard, and the engine room/steering compartment.

The vessel is powered by twin Mermaid Mistral diesels each rated 169 hp at 2,500 rpm, driving through PRM 1000 D4 gearboxes with 4:1 reduction ratio. Resilient mounts and flexible couplings were fitted.

Teignbridge Propellers Ltd supplied the sterngear and the 900mm diameter handed propellers. Each engine drives a 55 amp, 24V alternator and a CA-50/5-A clutched Azcue bilge and general service pump.

The steering system is by Wills Ridley with controls by Kobelt. A second station engine control and steering position is arranged on the starboard side deck. The wheelhouse is equipped with gas cooker, stainless steel sink and mess table.

A Palfinger PK14080B is arranged on the starboard deck and a hydraulic capstan on the port side. These are powered from a pump on a clutched pto on one of the PRM gearboxes.
