Jan de Nul Busy in Caribbean
01 May 2002
Jan de Nul has provided an update on its recent activities in the Caribbean region.
In mid-2001, the company was awarded a contract to deepen the access channel at the Port of Belize City, along with the area known as Haulover Creek. The contract required the dredging of more than 2 million cubic metres of material, including rock. The company mobilised the 7,150kW cutter suction dredger Kaerius and the trailing suction hopper dredger Cristoforo Colombo to carry out the work.
Another job in the Caribbean has seen Jan de Nul contracted to deepen the Port of Kingston, Jamaica. For this particular project, Jan de Nul mobilised the world's most powerful cutter suction dredger, Leonardo da Vinci, which was later joined on site by the trailer Cristoforo Colombo.
The project is on schedule and is due to be completed in late June/early July this year.
Currently Jan De Nul is deepening the access channel to the port of Bridgetown, Barbados, using the cutter suction dredge Kaerius. There a volume of 400,000m 3of mainly harder material needs to be dredged and reclaimed in a rock-bunded area.
