Fire Suppression System for German Coast Guard

With the impending phasing out of Halon 1301 fire extinguishing systems by the end of this year, the German Coast Guard has started replacing its halon systems with Sea-Fire Marine's H-Series engineered FM-200 fire suppression systems.

The first two boats, the DGzRS vessels Fritz Behrens and Vormann Jantzen, have been fitted with FM-200 systems designed for large craft. The system's extinguishing agent reaches its maximum concentration in just ten seconds and will not damage sensitive electronics or electrical equipment, making it ideal for engine and generator compartments, bilges and communications centres.

The FM-200 system can be configured to accommodate spaces as small as 40m 3and as large as 500m 3. There is no residual cleanup after the systems have discharged and they are safe when people are present.

Because they incorporate modular use of cylinders and stackable valve components, the H-Series engineered systems are easy to install and service.

Mechanical valve assemblies are made from corrosion resistant brass and the systems require few, if any, replacement parts when they need to be recharged. FM-200 systems are tested in accordance with IMO/SOLAS requirements and have been approved by Lloyds and the MCA.
