Rugged New Mooring Rope from Cosalt
01 Nov 2002
Cosalt Safety & Protection has introduced a new offshore mooring rope manufactured to OCIMF guidelines suitable for tankers and storage vessels using single buoy or monopoint mooring systems. It also has applications for the general fishing industry.
Called Megaflex 8 Strand, the new rope is made from high tenacity polypropylene and polyester composite fibres.
This combines resistance to abrasion and deterioration with high strength.
The slow rate of fatigue is comparable to pure polyester but the weight for a given strength is comparable to nylon.
Wet strength is also equal to dry strength, making it suitable for mooring tails. In use the rope remains flexible and easy to splice. Like all plaited ropes, it does not rotate.
Megaflex resists frictional heat damage and offers good shock load absorption. Fully UV stabilised, the rope does not absorb water and has good chemical resistance properties except for the presence of alkalis.
Available in a range of sizes from 32mm to 168mm, Megaflex provides minimum breaking loads of between 300kN and 5,526kN. The rope is coloured white with a yellow and black tracer yarn.
