Delta 140 Patrol in Isle of Wight Launch
01 Oct 2002
The Delta 140 Patrol features a 14m GRP hull with aluminium superstructure and propulsion via twin Volvo Penta TAMD74C 450hp diesels driving Kamewa K32 waterjets for a maximum speed of 38 knots. Fitted out to a very high specification, the Delta 140 Patrol is aimed primarily at military, police, customs and coast guard operations but can also be specified for fisheries protection, pilot boat, offshore support and other duties.
The hull and superstructure are built under survey in accordance and certified with, Lloyds Special Service Craft Rules. The 100 series has been subjected to performance analysis carried out in sea states ranging to Beaufort 10, with significant wave heights of 7m.
The 140 together with her 18 and 21m sister craft are the result of a four year design and development programme.
Designed to operate in water depths of from less than 1m out to the open sea, the combination of low draft and waterjet propulsion minimises both the risk of propulsion system damage from running aground and of injuring people during search and rescue operations.
The 140's collar, manufactured from high performance Hypalon/ Neoprene blended materials, is divided into 13 individual compartments with each having pressure relief and inflation valves. The collar is mechanically attached to the hull, enabling a complete collar change to be performed in four hours without the need for specialised tools.
