IHC Holland Lands DEME Order

Belgian contractors DEME have ordered a 5,400m 3capacity trailing suction hopper dredger from IHC Holland, which has contracted the construction of the vessel to its Rotterdam based subsidiary yard Van der Giessen de Noord.

DEME has also taken an option for the building of a sister ship subject to confirmation early next year. The two vessels are valued at some 60m.

Owing to its draught of only 7m, the new vessel will be able to manoeuvre in very shallow waters yet can dredge to depths of up to 60m. DEME is likely to first deploy the dredger in Europe and the Mediterranean where it will be used to maintain safe depths for navigation in ports and fairways.

Ever busy, IHC Holland also has orders for 12 of its popular pontoon-based Beaver cutter suction dredgers. Orders for customers in China, Columbia, France, India, Italy, Nigeria, the USA and other countries will be built at the company's Sliedrecht yard as well as a 5,300kW booster station for the National Marine Dredging Company of Abu Dhabi.
