Clean Screens for CalMac Newbuilds

Marine window wiper specialist Wynn Marine has delivered the wiper system for two new ferries in production for Caledonian MacBrayne.

The vessels are both due for delivery this summer and are destined to join the large CalMac fleet operating out of the islands and peninsulas of the west of Scotland.

The first ferry is being built by Appledore Shipbuilders Limited and will be fitted with 22 Type 1800 Seahorse wipers and a series 3000 control system.

The Type 1800 is a robust pantograph wiper system from Wynn's Ocean Range which is a popular choice for workboats, medium sized commercial ships and heavy duty vessels. The Series 3000 control system has a capacity for up to 50 separate wipers and other bridge equipment.

The second vessel is currently in production at McTay Marine Ltd and will feature 6 Type D MKIII wipers with 230V AC induction motors. This recently upgraded system features an externally mounted motor and its straight line wiping action can cover 80% of a window at variable speeds.
