Deep Freeze Dredger Designed for Defiance
01 Apr 2003
VOSTA LMG will deliver a CSD350 cutter suction dredger this month to a Russian customer who has specified that the vessel must be able to operate in Siberia at temperatures as low as -40ºC.
The engines, hydraulic system, suction pipeline, discharge pipeline, pump assembly, heating systems, lubrication oil and hydraulic oil will all be adjusted to conditions.
The Russian contractor will use the dredger to construct sand roads on the northern tundra to make oil and gas fields accessible during the summer period when conditions are swampy after the land has been frozen during the winter.
The dismountable dredger will be transported overland to its working area while the ground is still frozen. The 25m LOA vessel has cutter power of 55kW and will dredge to a depth of 8m.
A VOSTA LMG -TSC 04 cutter head will feed a GIW 12 x 14 LSA 36 dredge pump pushing sand through a 350mm diameter discharge pipe.
VOSTA LMG has recently received an order for an engineering and component package for a 5,000m 3capacity trailing suction hopper dredger commissioned by China's Huanghua Port. The dredger will be built at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in Shanghai, with VOSTA LMG designing and supplying the complete dredging system, which features a combined control, monitoring and survey system. Active dragheads and the latest in suction pipe design are intended to optimise dredging performance in the difficult conditions to be encountered at Huanghua Port.
The 112m LOA vessel will be capable of maintenance or capital dredging duties to depths of 26m when it is delivered next year.
