Dolphin Pods Successful in Sea Trials

The first two Dolphin podded propulsion systems jointly developed by STN Atlas Marine Electronics and Wartsila Propulsion have successfully completed sea trials aboard Seven Seas Voyager, the new 50,000gt cruise liner for V Ships Leisure/Radisson Seven Seas which is due to commence service this month.
Featuring enhanced propulsion efficiencies, each Dolphin system is designed to deliver 7,000kW of power at 175rpm.
Main system features include integration of a powerful electric drive into a hydrodynamically optimised pod below ship powered by an air cooled six-phase synchronous motor.
With a continuous rotation angle of 360º around the vertical axis, the pods ensure optimum manoeuvrability.
