Emu Thames Survey

Emu of Durley, Southampton reports successful completion of a study on behalf of the Port of London Authority to provide comparative data for a maintenance dredging project in the Princes Channel on the southern side of the Thames Estuary.

The data, obtained over two 30 day periods from a custom-designed seabed-mounted frame with sensors positioned 1m above, will be compared with that acquired during dredging operations in order to determine any adverse effects on the marine environment.

Frame instrumentation included an acoustic current meter for detection of suspended sediment as well as an optical backscatter sensor for measurement of finer grained sediment concentrations.
