Cosalt Broadens Base With Seadog Acquisition

Cosalt Safety & Protection has acquired the Scottish company Seadog Lifesaving Appliances in a deal valued at approximately £2.5m. Cosalt describes the acquisition as a natural step forward for both the well established companies. Seadog has been trading in its present form since the 1960s and Cosalt's history stretches back to 1873.

Each company's customer base is set to benefit from synergies on the marine safety side, where both companies are heavily involved in liferaft servicing, lifejackets and safety equipment.

The acquisition will also provide both companies with access to a much wider product range.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Cosalt's fire safety business as a significant proportion of Seadog's business comes from marine fire fighting equipment.

Seadog's technical knowledge and product range in this area will bolster Cosalt's National Fire Team in the commercial marine market and its Offshore Projects Team working in the international oil and gas industry as well as providing extra resources and expertise for Cosalt's branch network.

Seadog, in turn, will benefit from Cosalt's expertise in rope, rigging, netting, lifting and testing equipment, giving it access to a complete package of marine products and services. Seadog currently supplies a broad range of personal fire protection equipment plus ancillary products and services to the commercial marine and offshore oil industries. These include breathing apparatus, gas detection tubes, emergency escape devices and fire protection clothing as well as smaller items such as hoses, gauges and couplings.

Seadog is the Scottish distributor for the Drager range of fire safety products.
