New Marine Safety Officers Course Available

Safety and survival specialist RGIT Montrose has devised the UK's first Marine Safety Officers and Representatives Course in response to growing industry demand. Following the UK Government's recent recommendations that ship officers put in safety management systems for vessels, RGIT received many calls from within the marine industries asking for a course similar to that for offshore safety representatives.

The three day course provides delegates with an overview of current marine legislation along with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their functions as safety representatives. It recently gained Institute of Occupational Safety & Health accreditation and has also been endorsed by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency.

The course covers a total of 17 modules with topics including risk assessment, health and safety assessment, and accident investigation and prevention.

It has ben purposely designed to include as much role play as possible to simulate real life scenarios and provide the opportunity to test several options to overcome them. Participants' performance is then evaluated to deliver a competency based assessment of individual performance which is intended to both build confidence and potentially help to reduce incidents on board vessels.
