Port Communication Upgraded
01 Feb 2003
The new system, which replaces a 2.4 GHz point-to-point system, provides the Port Control with dedicated radio link channels free from unwanted interference, enabling Port Control officers to safely control the many VLCC and other shipping movements within the deep water haven.
The previous unlicensed 2.4GHz equipment gave the Port Authority severe radio interference with no recourse to prevention. Upgrading the radar system at all sites required the new radio links to accommodate future data and voice enhancements in addition to being secure. The Westica communication system has the ability to carry up to 768Kbits/s of traffic.
