Tests Underway to Enhance Recycled Decking
01 Feb 2003
Portsmouth UK based Plasti Ltd are conducting a series of tests in conjunction with Anglia Waterblast, Jotun and the Royal Military College at Shrivenham (part of Cranfield University) aimed at further enhancing the non-slip properties of their decking planks, which are manufactured from 100% recycled materials.
The Plasti-Deck boards are sprayed with an aggressive, high impact non-slip coating and then tested in accordance with the British Standard.
Plasti-Deck boards, which will not deteriorate or rot, can be supplied in four different colours and several different sizes and profiles. The boards are claimed to be more cost efficient to use than their hardwood or treated softwood counterparts while also reducing reliance on over-used natural resources.
Plast-Deck boards are currently being fitted to balconies of a waterfront housing development at Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth and are also being used to deck pontoons by River and Marine of Rochester, Kent, which has a rolling programme of pontoon construction for the RNLI. Plasti Ltd has recently won a SMART Development Award to develop, construct and install a beach groyne using Plasti-designed composite piles in combination with other sustainable materials.
