New Multiple Subsea Application ROV Series From Thales
01 Jan 2003
Thales GeoSolutions of Chessington has developed what it calls new-generation ROV's designed for multiple subsea applications from high-end survey work to drill rig support, the G3 series.
Also ideal for inspection, repair and maintenance operations, the first of the series is a 125hp, 3000m depth rated work class system with a 750kg bollard pull and a forward speed in excess of 3.5 knots. It can accommodate 12 colour cameras and up to 15 survey sensors fitted without modification.
The company adds that it offers improved data integrity over longer distances as a result of use of single-mode fibre optics.
In addition, it is optimised for deepwater and large excursion operations enabling coverage of large seabed areas from one dive with a minimum of launch vessel manoeuvring.
Other main G3 features include a new pilot control station and control system using industry standard components for video, overlay, switching and PC-based SCADA condition monitoring facilities.
In addition, the associated control van provides ample space for clients to view mission status, having been completely redesigned to provide robust control and state-of-the-art power systems.
Thales says that many of the enhancements will also be retrofitted to its existing worldwide fleet of ROV's which have a full range of features, including manipulators and thrusters.
