IHC Systems Forsees Slowdown of Newbuild Boom

The Netherlands dredging electronics specialists IHCSystems BV have reported a slowdown of the extended boom years during which it has supplied equipment for an unprecedented wave of newbuilding trailing suction hopper dredgers, jumbo trailers, and cutter suction dredgers.

The company now anticipates a period when maintenance services and lifetime conversions will become their main source of activity, with the great energy that went into the design, installation and acquisition of operational know how redirected towards the optimisation of operational efficiency. IHC Systems perceives itself as well placed to deliver advanced programmes for structured maintenance and to develop a strategic vision for the implementation of lifetime conversion.

Meanwhile, the company still has much to report in the way of new orders, including one from sister company Shipyard De Merwede in Hardinxveld-Giessendam to provide dredging instrumentation for both of the 16,000m 3capacity trailers the yard is building for dredging giant Royal Boskalis Westminster. Both vessels are scheduled for commissioning and delivery next year.

The dredging instrumentation package includes pendulum transmitters for suction tube vertical measurements, angle transmitters for suction tube horizontal measurements, mixture velocity and density transducers, vacuum and differential pressure transmitters, draught and loading transmitters, hopper level transmitters, and suction cabling comprising a solution with underwater connectors with moulding blocks to enable easy exchange.

Both vessels will also carry IHC Systems Dynamic Positioning & Dynamic Tracking system.

IHC Systems has also recently landed the order for the delivery of production measurement systems for two 4,400m 3trailers being built at the Spanish yard Izar Astilleros for Belgian contractor Jan de Nul. The Taccola and the Francesco di Giorgio are both due in service by the end of this year.
