  • Geotechnical Survey Precedes Canary Wharf Development

    A detailed marine site investigation has been completed in London which will be used in the design and construction of the proposed BP4 tower development at the Canary Wharf complex on the Isle of Dogs. The major geotechnical survey was conducted by Cornwall UK based Seacore for client Canary Wharf Contractors Ltd .

    Proposals unveiled last month for a major £200m revamp of Portsmouth Naval Base to accommodate a new generation of larger warships include dredging the existing fairway 10ft deeper or creating a completely new channel which would pass near the wreck site of Henry VIII's flagship, the Mary Rose .

  • Pacific Into the Thames

    VT Halmatic has secured an order for a Pacific 28 RIB for London's Metropolitan Police Service . The new boat will join the Met's existing Pacific 24 RIBs in patrolling the River Thames and its approaches. The boat will be powered by twin Yamaha marine diesels to provide an operational speed above 40 knots. 

  • £4 Million Marine Construction at Port of Plymouth

    Associated British Ports (ABP) will invest over £4m in major construction works at Millbay Docks at its Port of Plymouth in preparation for the arrival of Brittany Ferries' new superferry Pont Aven , which will enter service in April of next year.

  • Shipbuilding Century Closes at Woolston

    The launch last month of HMS Mersey brought an end to nearly 100 years of shipbuilding for the British Royal Navy by VT (formerly Vosper Thornycroft ) at its Woolston shipyard in Southampton.

    The second of three much-praised, multi-functional patrol boats for the German Coastguard has been named and put into service by Parliamentary Secretary of State Ute Vogt after completion at Abeking & Rasmussen. 

  • ROV Diffuses Nearshore Survey Risk

    The trend to deploy ROVs in nearshore applications gained further momentum recently when Dean & Dyball used an ROV provided by Subsea Vision to survey power station pipeline diffusers off the coast of West Dorset UK. It is the first time an ROV has been used to perform tasks previously undertaken by a dive team. 

  • Mersey Docks Redevelopment Plans Approved

    The joint application from the Mersey Docks and Harbour Company and the UK’s national regeneration agency, English Partnerships, to transform 31 hectares of Liverpool’s waterfront into a major residential and leisure village has been given the go-ahead by the City Council’s Planning Committee.

  • Thames Wind Farm Survey Completed

    Thales GeoSolutions ' environmental and metocean services division has completed a 13 month oceanographic measurement programme in the outer Thames estuary. The programme was completed for Hydrosearch and is part of a pre-development study for a proposed offshore windfarm. 

  • 'Tricolor' Salvage Goes Online

    A website launched late last month allows all interested parties to follow salvage operations for removal of the car carrier Tricolor , which sunk in the English Channel following a collision last December.

  • ISS Lands in Umm Qasr

    International marine management company Inchscape Shipping Services (ISS) has been appointed as sole Lloyd’s Agents for southern Iraq, effective from the first of this month. ISS will be responsible for the region of Iraq south of the 32nd parallel. This territory includes Iraq’s deepwater port of Umm Qasr and will eventually include the ports of Basra and Khor al Zubayr as well as Basra Airport once these are restored to normal commercial status. 

  • High-Point Heals Harbour

    Consultants High-Point Rendel have won a contract for repairs to a berthing dolphin at the Immingham Oil Terminal . The contract, awarded by Humber Oil Terminals Trust , is for repairs to dolphin OD1 at Immingham's No 1 berth which was damaged by a small bulk carrier. 

  • Kongsberg Restructure In Place

    The restructuring of marine electronics specialists Kongsberg Maritime, announced at Nor-Shipping in June, came into effect on the first of this month. The subsidiaries Kongsberg Simrad and Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems (KMSS) now come under the Kongsberg<$>Maritime banner in a move to ensure greater knowledge and resource distribution throughout all sectors of the company.
