Small Footprint Cat Powers New RNLI Lifeboat

A new class of RNLI lifeboat designated as the FSB II (Fast Slipway Boat) has been in planned development since 1994 and will replace the archetypal Tyne Class lifeboat that has delivered outstanding service around the UK's shores for more than 20 years. The FSB II will be entering the RNLI fleet in 2004/5 as the new Tamar Class boat.

    Sealion's New SPSV Thrusts Ahead

Appledore Shipbuilders chose ASI Robicon to provide the propulsion and thruster system for the newbuild 83m shallow draught platform supply vessel (SPSV) being built for Sealion Shipping under Lloyds Register classification. The diesel electric vessel is propelled by two aft main Kamewa fixed pitch thrusters and two bow fixed pitch tunnel thrusters for manoeuvring.

Propulsion System Enables Nearshore Stone Dumping

Netherlands based marine contractors Royal Boskalis Westminster have used the Voith Schneider Propeller equipped side stone dumping vessel Cetus to successfully complete demanding coastal protection works at Hastings UK. The unique propulsion system survived 40 delivery cycles in extreme shallow water conditions and enabled a rock dumping procedure only considered possible due to the precise positioning capabilities of the Voith Schneider equipment.
