Jotun Decks the Halls (and the Floors) at seawork2003
01 Jun 2003
A range of new concrete coatings will be introduced at seawork 2003 by Jotun Paints (Europe) Ltd . Offering port and harbour masters protection for warehouse and other floors subject to heavy wear, the Jotafloor range provides the four layer Jotafloor Traffic Deck System .
The topmost layer is 'Jotafloor PU Topcoat', a flexible polyurethane that is resistant to oil and other contaminants and is available in a variety of colours.
Below this is a traction layer of non-slip quartz aggregate underlaid by a protective layer of glass flake epoxy resistant to abrasion and stress which, in turn, rests upon one of three Jotafloor primer/sealers chosen to suit the specific conditions.
The many products in the Jotafloor range also include 'Jotafloor Coating' solvent-free epoxy, 'Jotafloor Topcoat' epoxy formulation, 'Jotafloor Rapid Dry' fast drying high durability alkyd, and 'Jotafloor Screed' solvent-free epoxy floor topping.
Also on show at seawork will be Jotun's advanced TBT-free antifouling 'SeaQuantum' range, which is based on a safe silyl polymer widely used in the food industries and incorporates environmentally acceptable active ingredients. It meets all the requirements of the IMO Convention on the Control of Harmful Anti-Fouling Systems on Ships.
A menu of variations on the SeaQuantum theme enables owners' performance criteria to be accurately matched. These variations include 'SeaQuantum Plus' for speeds above 18 knots, 'SeaQuantum Classic' for 12 to 20 knots, 'SeaQuantum FB' for flat bottoms, and 'SeaQuantum Ultra' for speeds below 12 knots and static structures.
Visitors to Jotun's Stand 46 will be able to try out the Pathfinder' antifouling selection system, which not only selects the most appropriate treatment for a vessel but also shows how the correct choice can be cost effective in its antifouling protection. Another software demonstration will allow visitors to test their knowledge of paints and corrosion protection.
Finally, on the main quay, Anglia Waterblast Ltd will demonstrate the preparation and application of Jotun's ' Jota-Armour' non-slip coating.
Originally formulated to meet UK Ministry of Defence requirements for anti-slip coating systems for naval vessels, JotaArmour is also being widely used for the treatment of concrete surfaces in terminals.
The epoxymastic product gives a glossy but non-slip finish and successfully treats steel and concrete walkways, stairs and wherever slippery surfaces could create a serious hazard.
