New Dual Channel NAVTEX Receiver From McMurdo
01 Jun 2003
McMurdo, manufacturer of the ICS brand of NAVTEX receivers, has launched a new entry level dual-channel NAVTEX receiver called the ICS NAV6dual, a paperless model that displays weather and navigation warning information on a large, easy to read LCD screen.
It is claimed to be the only NAVTEX currently available that can simultaneously monitor both frequencies (518kHz and 490kHz) without the user needing<$>to switch between channels. This ability means users automatically benefit from the new 490kHz transmissions which include inshore forecasts, a three day weather outlook for the UK, and data in several overseas languages. In addition, weather, navigation warnings and safety information is broadcast on 518kHz in English.
The simple to operate ICS NAV6dual provides appropriate and up to date NAVTEX data that can be sorted by time/ date, station received from, or category of message. There is a programmable alarm which can be used to alert those on board of ‘vital’ information. The new model has sufficient non-volatile storage for approximately three days NAVTEX transmissions under normal operating conditions.
Suitable for either flush or surface mounting, the ICS NAV6dual’s screen has four levels of lighting for clarity of vision during the day and a backlight for viewing data at night. It is the latest addition to the ICS NAV6 range and offers the same message presentation and reception as the ICS NAV6plus but without the GPS and NMEA repeater screens.
