Versatile Buoy Tender Gets NavComms Package

A new buoy tender under build at the Schelde Naval Shipbuilding yard in the Netherlands for the Middle East Navigation Aids Service (MENAS) will feature a complete suite of bridge electronics supplied by Sperry Marine.
The fully integrated bridge system will include ECDIS, dual interswitched BridgeMaster E radars, VDR, AIS, dual gyrocompases, autopilot, dual-axis Doppler speed log, echosounder, dual DGPS receivers, GMDSS A3 communication station, Fleet 77 satellite communication terminal, helicopter beacon and helicopter radio. Sperry Marine will also provide support for installation, commissioning, sea trials and operator training. Although the 2,500grt vessel is designed primarily as a buoy tender, its capabilities have been extended to allow it to also carry out hydrographic surveys, as well as oil pollution control and clean-up activities.
