PISCES 2 Networks Pollution Response Management
01 Jun 2003
seawork exhibitor Transas hasintroduced its next generation Potential Incident Simulation, Control and Evaluation System (PISCES 2).
The system is designed to facilitate a timely response to a variety of incident types including marine oil or chemical spills, offshore marine casualties, major on board fires or weather related disasters. Effective actions in such situations depend on management's ability to collect information from diverse sources to obtain current data on the available sources, a process ensured by PISCES 2.
PISCES 2 is based on the PISCES solutions originally developed as simulation and control tool to coordinate large scale oil spill response exercises for the US Coast Guard. While possessing all the features of the original version, PISCES 2 has added networking and multi-incident capabilities.
One of the most advanced features of PISCES 2 is the ability to deploy multiple workstations over a network.
The networked configuration permits access to the central databases and GIS data by operators working in all branches of the command structure and units deployed in the field. This addresses the requirements for a variety of distinct functions in support of situation management.
The PISCES 2 system provides the capability to conduct realistic real-time and compressed-time training exercises for response teams by the inclusion of the dynamic simulation module.
Simulation features include mathematical models of oil and chemical spills on water, calculations of trajectory and weathering of the floating spill mass, and the unique modelling of the interaction between the spill and deployed resources such as booms, skimmers, chemical dispersants and burning operations. The results of a training exercise or test case scenarios are archived and can be played back for post-exercise debrief and analysis.
