Ro-Pax Ferries Under Build
01 Jun 2003
Enterprise Nationale de Transports Maritimes de Voyageurs (ENTMV) has ordered two ro-pax ferries from Izar 's Seville yard. The Algerian state owned company will operate the new tonnage between Algiers and Marseilles with a call at Alicante. Each 1,300 passenger ferry will have a freight capacity equivalent to 300 cars or 42 trucks and passenger accommodation in 209 cabins.
MacGregor has been commissioned to supply and install the ro-ro cargo access/ transfer shipsets. Each will comprise bow door, bow ramp, foldable stern ramp, four internal access ramps, and ten hoistable car deck panels. MacGregor will also supply two pilot doors, two bunker doors, two main power packs and four mini power packs for the ferries, which are due for handover in the first and second quarters of 2004.
Also contributing to the vessels is the Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine, which has been awarded a contract to supply fin stabilisers. The 9.1 m2 Gyrofin roll stabilisers have a digital control system with automatic lift control technology providing adaptive roll stabilisation under dynamic conditions, reducing ship roll by up to 90%.
