South Boats Ltd have crossed the Solent from their Clarence Boat Yard on the Isle of Wight to exhibit at every seawork thus far and will return again for seawork2003 . The company's Sales Director, Ben Coleman, says of the event, ' seawork hasproved itself to be a very efficient marketing tool for us. We are constantly amazed by the number and diversity of orders that are placed as a result.'
South Boats has grown rapidly since exhibiting their very first South Catamaran at seawork99 .A further 19 craft are in service in the UK, Eire, Holland and Canada with a further 12 under build and on order. The South Catamaran 36/11 has impressed many with its excellent stability both at rest and at speed coupled with supreme seakeeping in all conditions. South Boats is bringing three versions of the popular craft to seawork2003 ; the Island wheelhouse model, the Workboat model, and the Sports Fisherman model.
Nipper is a 2002 built South Catamaran 36/11 Island offering 500 sq/ft of flush working deck and a medium sized wheelhouse.
Powered by twin Cummins 6BTA5.9M 260hp diesel engines, the vessel has a sprint speed of 26 knots and can cruise above 18 knots with a 4,000kg cargo on deck while consuming as little as 40 litres of fuel per hour.
Nipper isoperated for commercial diving, press and PR photography, guard boat duties and other forms of commercial charter.
Seabreeze III was built this year as a 36/11 Workboat and offers 450ft 2of flush deck area plus sheltered seating for 12 passengers. Powered by the first European pair of John Deere 6068SFM 300 hp diesels, the vessel has a sprint speed in excess of 27 knots and will cruise above 20 knots with a full payload.
Seabreeze III operates from Brighton UK for charter angling and diving, commercial diving and survey work.
Also built this year and seen in the March issue of MJ , Second Opinion is the first of class South Catamaran 36/11 Sports Fisherman, specified for charter angling out of Southampton. This model offers more conventional aft raked front screens and a fully enclosed foredeck and coachroof to provide a twin cabin layout forward.
A narrow 15ft beam complies with local marina regulations but still allows for a double berth in the port cabin and twin single berths to the starboard cabin.
Main propulsion by twin Iveco 8061SRM30 330hp diesel engines pushes the vessel close to 30 knots at sprint and a loaded cruising speed in excess of 22 knots. Cruising at 1,900rpm is good for 19 knots, with a remarkable fuel consumption of as low as 28 litres.
The South Boats team at seawork will also be discussing the development and showing drawings of the South Catamaran 45/15, an all-new 39ft and 45ft model with a 22ft beam. Further projects under development will also be discussed at seawork .
