First Waterfront Expo 2003 to Take Place at ExCeL

The first Waterfront Expo, Waterfront Expo 2003, an international waterfront conference and exhibition designed to serve the needs of professionals involved in waterfront and marina design, will be held in London 22-23 October 2003 at the ExCeL exhibition centre in London's Docklands, the organisers have announced.

Media Generation Events Ltd said the event was being organised in collaboration with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), and was supported by The Building Centre.

'It is significant that the first Waterfront Expo is being held at ExCeL, within view of the next major London-based waterfront development - the proposed £5 billion project surrounding the Millennium Dome, ' said Mark Beaumont, Business Development Director of Media Generation Events Ltd. 'Thereafter we plan to move it around the world to other cities with re-developed and re-developing waterfronts' he explained 'We are delighted that in addition to RIBA, organisations such as The Building Centre are lending their support to this new event and are eager to attract similar support from other stakeholders in waterfront development, ' said Beaumont.

The conference programme being created by the RIBA, with input from other stakeholders including professional bodies, planning institutes, property development organisations, local government, and the construction industry media, will address the key issues involved in waterfront development including regional and local town planning; marketing;

gaining political support and financing for future developments.

It will include case studies on current new build schemes and regeneration developments in the UK and overseas; and address lessons learned from existing developments.

The conference programme will be available online at www. waterfrontexpo. com from mid-March.

The exhibition is designed to attract a similarly broad range of expertise including building contractors, civil engineering contractors, building material suppliers, architectural practices;

specialist designers; the financial and legal sector - banks, finance companies, insurance companies, specialist law firms; developers/ property companies; CAD computer software specialists;

building restoration experts;

land reclamation organisations;

specialists in specific construction techniques including piling, jetties, etc; dredging companies;

marina design/construction specialists; environmental consultants; harbour management;

and security.
