Cat In a Box Makes Tracks to seawork2003
01 Mar 2003
One of the long distance travellers to seawork2003 will be first time exhibitor Neptun Workboats AS from Oslo, Norway. The company's ConCat containerised catamaran is based on a proven workboat design to which is added the unique MB Folding Mechanism (MBFM) which allows the craft to be pulled out of its supplied container and assembled in less than two hours.
The 9.4m LOA catamaran has a beam of 3.7m and draws only 0.5m. It is built in FRP sandwich and has a total deck area of approximately 35m 2. The standard ConCat is no slow workboat, supplied as standard with twin Steyr turbodiesel engines each producing 164hp at 3,800.
Pumping Alamarin 230 waterjets through Hurt HSW 450D gearboxes, the combination is good for 24 knots, with power options available capable of taking ConCat to 40 knots.
The MBFM enables the 4.1 tonne craft to be supplied with its own upgraded 40ft container for reduced transportation cost, shortened mobilisation times and an extended geographical range of operation. The containerised catamaran can be transported by ship, train or truck and has improved protection regardless of mode. ConCat is a workboat which can sit safe and secure in its own cost-effective storage wherever it goes.
