New Marine Safety Helmet on Show at seawork
01 Mar 2003
Heading to seawork2003 will be Gecko Headgear of Bude in Cornwall UK. The latest advances in design technology will be on display, incorporated into the Gecko Marine Safety Helmet (GMSH).
The new Mark 10 GMSH is fuly approved to BSI PAS 028:2002 and CE marked, making it the only BSI approved marine safety helmet available and the only helmet of its kind in the world. The Mark 10 features a new shape to encompass an even larger range of head sizes than the Mark 9.
The Mark 10 GMSH features an inflatable bladder type liner which allows the wearer to inflate it to his or her size then fine tune the tension to suit conditions. This system creates a perfect seal to prevent wind and water entry and cuts out external noise when using communications equipment.
A new detection and recognition system using LED technology allows extended use of rechargeable batteries, which are either built in or provided as an external pack to drive a front mounted torch. This system is expected to be ready in the spring and should be on display at seawork.
Gecko is developing a new comms system for the GMSH which will hopefully also be ready in time for seawork. It will be totally waterproof and capable of connecting up to 16 helmets on an open communications basis.
