Built for Southampton doctor Hugh Shepherd, Second Opinion will be based at Itchen Marine.

A keen Channel fisherman, Dr Shepherd plans to use the boat for both private and charter fishing until his retirement, at which time he will run the craft commercially as a charter operation.

Main propulsion is by twin Marlin Marine supplied Iveco 8061 330hp diesel engines coupled to Twin Disc 5050A 1.8:1 reduction ratio gearboxes driving conventional Clements 1.75in stainless steel shafts, bronze stern tubes, skegs and rudders for a top speed of 29 knots and continuous loaded cruising speeds of 23 knots.

Dr Shepherd has opted for cruising at 1,900rpm (800 below max) for speeds of 19 to 20 knots.

This results in a claimed fuel consumption of only 32 LPH, working out at 3 miles per gallon for an incredible fuel cost of only 38 pence per mile. Also fitted to the port engine space is a Mase 3.5kVA marine genset providing 240V to the vessel's distribution board.

The forward accommodation comprises a cabin in each hull with 7ft of headroom. The wheelhouse has a port helm with integrated navigation system including a Raymarine 10in colour LCD radar, Raymarine 7in colour LCD fishfinder and chart plotter, Furuno 7in colour LCD chart plotter, Raymarine auto pilot and an Icom DSC VHF radio. Hydraulic steering and Morse mechanical controls are also fitted.

In addition to the forward cabins, accommodation also includes a head, a galley and a large 'L' shaped seating area.

Despite all the amenities, there is still 256sq/ft of flush, stable working area in the cockpit.
