Hybrid Propulsion for Silent Running

Vetus Den Ouden has introduced a novel 'hybrid propulsion' installation which enables boats to be powered by diesel fuel or electricity.
Alfa Lavals engine room protection systems will be on show at Europort.
The system of electric propulsion will be beneficial whenever quiet operation is required or otherwise desirable, whereas the system can be switched back to diesel power whenever more power is needed.
Whenever the diesel engine is operating, the electric motor functions as a dynamo, charging the batteries for the next use of electric propulsion.
