Malaysian Customs Please the Swedes
01 Oct 2003
Sweden's Dockstavarvet and its Malaysian partner Dawn Enterprise Sdn Bhd signed a contract recently for four new IC 16 M High Speed Interceptor patrol vessels.
The IC 16 M was launched last summer at seawork2002.
The four newbuilds for the Royal Malaysian Customs will be manufactured locally by DNSS Boat Builder Sdn Bhd, a joint venture company between Dockstavarvet, Dawn Enterprise Sdn Bhd, and Sarawak Slipways Sdn Bhd. Dockstavarvet will supply the complete engineering and construction drawings as well as service, spare parts and support systems.
The IC 16 M is based on Dockstavarvet's Combat Boat 90, of which 17 have been sold to the Royal Malaysian Navy, manufactured in Sweden and delivered between 1999 and 2001. The two designs share high speed capabilities, good endurance and a low radar signature.
The Malaysian Customs vessels will each have two MAN B&W D2842 LE410 main engines, each with a medium duty rating of 810 kW. Waterjet propulsion is provided by Rolls Royce Kamewa FF-410 units with Stromag couplings and shafts. Navigation is provided by the Furuno NavNet system.
The four IC 16 Ms will serve all over Malaysia. The first boat will be delivered in nine months with the others to follow from the Miri shipyard at two month intervals.
