    Thales-Sonsub 'Prestige' Contract

    Thales GeoSolutions and Sonsub have been retained by Spanish oil company Repsol YPF to design and build ROVs for deepwater surveys and investigation of the Prestige oil tanker which sank 150 miles off the north west Spanish coast last November, occasioning widely-reported environmental damage and political arguments as to who exactly was responsible. 

    Hydro4 Symposium

    The Hydrographic Society , which is presently devolving into the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies (IFHS), is to hold its 14th biennial international symposium in Galway, Ireland from 2-4 November 2004. 

    US Charts on Demand

    US company Ocean Grafix of Minnesota reports testing of a service that can provide instant paper charts using latest advances in digital print technology. It has begun tests at two locations in Louisiana in expectation of expanding the service if they are successful. 

    Licences for MCA

    The Maritime & Coastguard Agency , the UK's national maritime administration responsible for promoting standards of safety at sea and protection of the marine environment, has acquired a series of licences for HIPS/SIPS, GIS and HOM from Canadian survey software specialists, CARIS .
