US Charts on Demand
01 Sep 2003
US company Ocean Grafix of Minnesota reports testing of a service that can provide instant paper charts using latest advances in digital print technology. It has begun tests at two locations in Louisiana in expectation of expanding the service if they are successful.
While ships equipped with ECDIS can already receive instant updates in a variety of ways, the majority of them still use paper charts and finding a current one at short notice can be problematic.
OceanGrafix's remote print service is being conducted in association with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to produce fully corrected and up-to-date US charts on water-resistant or laminated paper.
