Low Cost Digital Compass Module

Surrey UK based Inertial Aerosystems has announced the availability of a new solid state, dual axis, low cost digital compass module suitable for OEMs in high volume applications.
Manufactured by Honeywell’s Solid State Electronics Centre and designated HMR3100, the small, rugged module costs less than £50 in volume and is designed for applications such as vehicle compassing, hand held navigators, and general navigation systems.
Honeywell’s proven magnetoresistive technology gives a heading acuracy of better than 5° with a 0.5° resolution. The compass measures less than 20 mm square and is ideal where space and weight are at a premium. Output is ASCII (USART). An optional Rs232 daughter board with PC software acts as a development accessory.
Also, a kit of one axis and two axis magnetic sensors and two single axis accelerometers form the building blocks of a tilt compensated three axis compass.
