Interbeton Awarded Contract to Build Breakwater in Cameroon

Interbeton - part of the Royal BAM Group in the Netherlands - has been awarded a contract for the design and construction of a breakwater for Limbe shipyard in Cameroon, West Africa. The contract is valued at around ? 27m, and the client is Chantier Naval et Industriel du Cameroun SA.

The project consists of the design and construction of a 700m long breakwater in 15m of water. The breakwater will consist of a rock structure with a concrete capping and a road on top.

A total of one million tonnes of rock and 7,600m? of concrete will be required for the project, which will take two years to complete.

The breakwater is the first phase in the construction of a new port. A 400m long quay wall will also be required, as will dredging work, new buildings and infrastructure.

Interbeton said it anticipates starting work in Cameroon at the end of 2003.
