New Projects for to Jan De Nul
01 Aug 2004
Following on from projects recently awarded to Jan De Nul in the Sakhalin area of Russia, the Middle East, and Mauritius, the company has announced that it has also won new projects in the North Sea and Argentina recently.
The first contract is in connection with a new 44in high pressure natural gas pipeline which will be installed from the Sleipner platform in the North Sea to a landfall in the UK. The pipeline is part of the Langeled transportation system bringing gas from the Ormen Lange field west of Norway to the UK market.
To carry out this challenging project Jan de Nul, plans to use its new very large cutter dredger J F J De Nul . For the offshore section, seabed leveling with pre-sweeping in up to 70m of water will be executed by the trailing hopper dredger Filippo Brunelleschi .For the beach crossing, a cofferdam will be installed combined with a curved 'micro tunnel' which will enable an environmental friendly shore crossing to be constructed without open excavation.
In southern Argentina, at Tierra del Fiego, Jan de Nul has been made responsible for the lowering of a pipeline on behalf of client Total.
For this project, Jan De Nul's trailing hopper dredger Amerigo Vespucci is to be equipped with a jet head with specially designed safety devices to enable the pipeline and piggyback service lines to be lowered safely in severe sea conditions.
