The Mako 655 at seawork featured a 230hp inboard diesel driving a waterjet which will take it at speeds to 35 knots with three crew onboard. The craft was fast and stable when experienced by MJ in the uncharacteristically hostile sea conditions at seawork 2004 . It is specifically intended for search and rescue operations where speed and manoeuvrability in all sea conditions is vital.
The boat shown at seawork wasdelivered after the show to RGIT Montrose, where it is operating in a training role for ferry and offshore crew.
Norsafe claims the market's widest range of rescue boats and daughter craft for ships, offshore installations and the rescue services. All are of GRP construction with a low freeboard to facilitate rescue operations, are self-bailing, self-righting, have foam filled fendering and deck space for a capacity of 15 persons in the case of the Mako 655. A specially developed offshore davit with shock absorbers and a tensioning system for severe weather allows the craft to be launched and recovered from mother craft in up to sea state 6 and beyond. .
The Mako 655 is approved according to SOLAS 1983/96 and MSC 809 regulations and is certificated with a Mark of Conformity according to the EU Marine Directive.
