Seawork2004 Review

Ali-it Surveys seawork Success

seawork2004 proved another successful show for Pembrokeshire based aluminium boatbuilders Ali-itmarine Ltd . The company's spectacular Shockwave thrill ride boat was a hot ticket for regular outings from the seawork floating pontoon while on the new business side, Ali-it took orders for another two 14.5m shaft driven catamarans for UK customers and a 21m long, 120 passenger ferry for an operator in Ireland.

Despite the buzz surrounding Shockwave and all the new orders, there was disappointment that Ali-it's new 14.5m foil assisted, shaft driven catamaran for Osiris Projects was pinned down in Wales by the force 10 conditions blowing as seawork was due to open. Custom built to survey offshore wind farm sites and meeting the MCA Workboat Code category 2, the new vessel is powered by a pair of 440hp Yanmar marine diesels coupled to semi-tunnelled shaft drives.

A Hysu cat stainless steel foil system adds at least 5 knots to the top speed, enabling the 22 tonne craft to reach 28 knots fully laden whilst also delivering improved comfort with reduced sea motion as well as improving fuel consumption. The Yanmar engines are matched with new ZF twin speed gearboxes for faster acceleration to the impressive top speed.

Osiris Projects is reportedly delighted with their new craft, which can travel economically at high speed to hydrographic survey sites and deal comfortably with the often difficult sea conditions off the UK's west coast.
