Force Be With You Underwater
01 Dec 2004
Force Dredging Systems (FDS) has recently completed a successful hire contract in the Caspian Sea which involved clearing drill mud cuttings and debris away from the base of a production jacket and placing them in a specified dumpsite some 60m to 80m away. Once FDS' Superstream Dredging System had cleared the cuttings and debris, it was quickly reconfigured on site to undertake seabed trenching for a new riser installation.
FDS plant was deployed from the support vessel Tabriz for the duration of the ROV orientated works. A Sealion working ROV was used to manipulate the Superstream system, with sophisticated equipment ensuring the accuracy and progress of operations.
FDS UK projects manager Jeff Noakes said, 'Our client MCCI requested a containerised dredging package with modifications which would be beneficial to the work schedule.
Once agreed, the Superstream multi-purpose dredging unit was modified to suit the ROV and on site requirements, then shipped to site with two technical operators from FDS UK. The equipment required neither recovery nor maintenance at any time during the 30 day operation. I am pleased to say we have been invited to supply equipment to MCCI for their next project.'
A spokesman for MCCI added, 'FDS fully prepared a bespoke deepwater containerised dredging system to cover all aspects of use, which included options for full diving and ROV operations plus crane operation if required. These three options covered any possible eventuality which may have occurred during the works. The containerised system also came fully fitted and equipped with options including 110V power, tools and workshop facilities, a full spares package and full back-up from FDS.'
