£100m Marina Plans for Yarmouth
01 Dec 2004
Plans for a marina at Yarmouth in the UK which could cost as much as £100m could be submitted to the borough council in February of 2005.
A local businessman, Mike Gouldby, who has been driving the project forward, says the Cobholm Marina scheme has obtained backing from what he called 'a significant East Anglian developer.'
The development, which has received preliminary backing from Yarmouth council, would take place on 22 acres of derelict land stretching from the yard at Mr Gouldby's company, Bure Marine, to Breydon Bridge.
The scheme includes a 5 acre marina basin with space for 150 motor and sailing yachts, about 400 flats, along with bars, restaurants, shops and a fitness centre.
Mr Gouldby has also received support from Yarmouth Port Authority and the town's MP.
One of the key advantages of the proposed site is that it is close to the Norfolk Broads, and at the confluence of two major rivers in an area which has National Park status.
