Building a Bridge to Choice
01 Dec 2004
Rotterdam's Alphatron Marine is delivering an alternative to standardised integrated bridge consoles with the introduction of the new Alphabridge design concept, which enables shipyards and owners to select the wheelhouse equipment they would like to install rather than be made to accept a full package from a single manufacturer.
Alphatron designers help owners assemble an equipment package which considers the relevant functionalities required to perform a specific task, whether it be for large ships or port and harbour workboats.
The Alphabridge concept encourages customised design, with basic consoles composed of standard sheet metal modules which can be free standing or linked together to compose a full bridge layout. An overhead console has also been engineered to accommodate instruments typically placed above. The colour scheme is based around standard variants of grey but individualised colours are available on request.
An interesting feature of the Alphabridge is that it is height adjustable either manually or via optional electronic control, making it possible to satisfy varying international standards regarding working conditions.
Within Alphabridge, it is possible to choose standard components from the Alphatron Marine range, including Alphaline control panels, Alphacon customisable conning screen technology and the Alphachart fully type-approved ECDIS system. Proven radar systems are sourced from JRC or Kelvin Hughes. The Alphabridge concept is suitable for installations in European shipyards or prefabricated modules can be sent to yards further afield. Technicians receiving those packages will have little to do as the bulk of the work is carried out at Alphatron's prefabrication workshop in Rotterdam before shipment.
