Tall Oil Tales in Yorkshire
01 Dec 2004
Rix Shipping 's coastal tanker RixHawk recently became the first vessel since the early 1990s to discharge at the UK's Drax Power Station on the River Ouse between Goole and Selby.
Rix Hawk delivered 1,000 tons of Swedish 'tall oil', an environmentally friendly alternative to heavy fuel oil made from pulp and tree sap. Building on this success, the tanker barge Rix Osprey hasstarted delivering 350 tons of tall oil at least twice per week to Ferrybridge Power Station on the Air and Calder Navigation. The joint movements to Ferrybridge and Drax will eliminate 4,000 lorry trips per year from the import port of Immingham.
