Hammerhead Awarded for Underwater Welding
01 Feb 2004
West Yorkshire UK based Specialty Welds has received the DTI 'Smart' Award from the British Government's Department of Trade & Industry for its new Hammerhead wet-spot process.
The process, in development for over a year, promises benefits to those involved in underwater welding. These include welding without the requirement for welding skills, visibility, preparation or cleaning whilst delivering improved weld quality and strength over conventional wet welding.
The purpose of the award is to enable a feasibility study in which a full evaluation can be undertaken, proving the process and its capabilities.
Specialty Welds accepted an invitation from the International Diving Schools Association to present a presentation on the Hammerhead wet-spot welding process to delegates attending a recent seminar in Toronto, Canada.
As a member of the Association of welding and Fabrication Training and Education (AWFTE), Specialty Welds also presented details of its syllabus for the training of welders.
