No Trouble with Double Rubble

UMC International 's Fujairah team have recently provided a permanent solution for corrosion damage to the flat bottom hull plating of a tanker that was more extensive than had been budgeted for.

UMC's expert hull plating repair dive team attended a 'routine' job to cut out and replace a 600mm by 500mm area of known defective bottom plating. The area had suffered from severe corrosion and the watertight integrity of the hull had been compromised.

Upon cropping out the initial section, it was apparent that the immediately adjacent section also required renewal, thus calling for a total insert of 1,250mm by 600mm.

The divers had equipped themselves with a cofferdam related in size to the original insert specification. Rather than waste time arranging for a larger cofferdam, the divers used the one they had to repair the originally specified defective area then moved it to facilitate replacement of the second area.

The total defective area was renewed within the originally specified time frame despite the scope of works being increased.
