CEDA 'Dredging With Nature' at WODCON XVII
01 Feb 2004
The Central Dredging Association (CEDA) has published a listing of accepted papers to be presented at WODCON ZVII , the 17th World Dredging Congress , which will be held from 27 September to 1 October 2004 in conjunction with the SMM 2004 International Trade Fair inHamburg. CEDA hosts the triennial event on behalf of the World Organisation of Dredging Associations (WODA) when WODCON takes place in Europe every ninth year.
The theme of WODCON XVII is 'Dredging In a Sensitive Environment' and the 120 plus papers to receive platform or poster presentations will reflect the considerable move towards managing sediments on a river basin scale, thus fully acknowledging the dynamic interrelationship between rivers, estuaries and coastal waters.
With this shift in approach comes a gradual change in the perception of dredging. It is increasingly recognised that the proper management of dredging and dredged sediments can result in real environmental gains for the fluvial and coastal ecosystems while still ensuring that rivers continue to function as economic lifelines for local, regional and national economies.
Beyond the wealth of papers to be presented by authors from around the world, WODCON is simply the greatest event on the dredging industry's global calendar, with a concurrent exhibition, five technical visits, a rich social programme, an accompanying persons' programme, the bestowing of the International Association of Dredging Companies (IADC) 2004 Award, easy access to the massive SMM 2004 Trade Fair, and a three day post-Congress 'island hopping' tour of the Wadden Sea in a catamaran.
